Character Information: Wiki Link!
Personality:
Sunny is your average sixteen year old depressed teenager, who, for the last four years has dropped out of school and become a shut in as a result from his mental health struggles and a traumatic event that changed his life. Even before this time period of his life, he's noted to always be a shy and quiet individual who, "doesn't talk much, but is a great listener." In fact, throughout the game, Sunny has no dialogue, other than journal entries where we can see he is an intelligent individual who has no problems voicing his emotions and blunt opinions once he has the courage to. Sunny has a pessimistic worldview and is keenly aware of the world's suffering. He's also aware of humanity's abuse on the Earth by pondering existential questions beyond his typical maturity and having a fixation on recycling. It's fair to say his mind doesn't get a moment's rest, filled with many thoughts or always researching things to learn. His sister always told him to "expand your mind" which he has taken to heart since he has nothing better to do as a shut in.

One of the most notable traits about Sunny is his creativity. Throughout the game, we travel through Sunny's overactive imagination and his dreams. We see a whole colorful world he has imagined as a "safe space" to escape from his trauma along with pieces of artwork indicating he is quite the skilled artist. Sunny is also seen playing videogames and owns a computer where he spends a lot of time on because he is too nervous to go outside. Sunny carries on his back a plethora of worries and fears, suffering from severe agoraphobia, thassalophobia, arachnaphobia, acrophobia among a few others. It's implied that he also has social anxiety which also further explains why he struggles to make friends and even speak with a lot of words.

As a creative individual, he's seen to be a perfectionist with his work which often results in his insecurity. This is especially true when he picked up the violin just so he could play music with his older sister, Mari. It states that Sunny was never good at the violin and learned to hate it, but he wanted to play music for his sister and he wanted it to be perfect. Since he was never good at the violin, he often beat himself up mentally over his lack of talent with the violin, resulting in him losing his temper which turned into a devastating accident that would plague him for years to come. It's not the only time that Sunny's emotions shift; there is an emotions mechanic in his fighting matches and he and Basil are the only ones that can have "major mood swings" from one drastic emotion to the next. Other than being unstable in that way, Sunny is baseline de-attached from a lot of his emotions, his reality and sense of self until he is able to heal.

As mentioned, Sunny is a recluse. The game doesn't explain why Sunny doesn't seek professional or medical help or even elaborate on why his parents aren't being supportive. One of his childhood friends has been wanting to hang out with him for years, but Sunny hasn't dared left the house. His space is very personal to himself and despite being someone who is dealing with both anxiety and depression, his room seems tidy and neat besides the cardboard boxes he has for his moving day. In fact, one of his chores is to organize his belongings, which are all sentimentally held onto. Sunny holds onto happy memories tightly; the ones that involve his friends when everything was fine. The good memories are what ha fabricated his sense of reality in his mind: he still sees his friends as happy and young since he hasn't seen them physically in such a long time. He has difficulty expressing just how much care he has for his friends, but we see through his memories that he cherishes them more than anything else.

Over all, Sunny is a good kid. He has a negative outlook on himself and life in general. He's a creative hermit who prefers his own safe space and expressions himself through making things. He's timid and anxious... and he's really struggling to overcome the things that scare him the most. Depending on the choices you, as a player, make in his game, will determine his success. Sunny has an "alter" named Omori who influences him and his decisions, and this alter ego can consume Sunny's identity or disappear from existence depending on which decisions the player makes. On top of this, Sunny struggles with maladaptive daydreaming, dissociation, self loathing, panic attacks & anxiety, social anxiety.. many other mental health struggles. He has frequent intrusive thoughts and depending on the decision you as the player make, there are endings where he takes his life. The route I am taking him from, The Hikikomori Route, Sunny has refused to go outside and interact with his friends and the world around him before moving away, so he is particularly stressed and not okay, but he has at least progressed to overcome his fear of spiders, heights and drowning from this canon point.
